Representatives of Algerian students: “Protests will continue until all demands are realized”

“Government must realize students’ demands in order to avoid disturbing this year’s program and the Ministry has to choose the right way to deal with the situation in Algerian universities. The ball is now in the range of the Ministry of Education and it has to correct its errors before it is too late”, head of the Organization for Free Students, Mostafa Nouassa said.

“We do not care about the removal of the Minister Heraoubia and there are no political parties behind our protests. At the same time we appreciate decisions by the Council of Ministers. However, we insist on the need to implement and apply the Ministerial instruction n° 177, which stipulates the presence of students’ representatives, and consider demands that are still waiting for solutions”, he added.

“We decided to organize another protest for next Wednesday in order to insist on the need to implement the new instructions. The situation in our universities is not good and the ministry has to implement the new mechanisms in order to avoid suspension of studies through a number of universities and schools”, Aissa Ben Hadi, another representative of students said. 

“Stopping the protests and returning to studies does not mean that we forget about our demands. If government will not meet students demands protests will logically continue. Today, Algerian students care about their future”, Othman and Abdelghafour, students at the University of Science and Technology added.
